Reclaimed Stone Walling & Dry Stone Walling

Your trusted partner in Stone Construction.

Reclaimed stone offers many advantages, particularly due to its age and proven durability. Some of the stone held in stock at Helpston Masonry dates back over 300 years. This naturally aged material often provides greater resilience than newly quarried stone, along with rich, seasoned colours that deliver a unique variation in tone and character.

With over 200 tonnes of reclaimed walling stone available, Helpston Masonry is well positioned to closely match existing stonework, making it ideal for restoration, extensions, and heritage projects.

When it comes to traditional dry stone walling, the use of longer-tailed stones is essential. These stones tie both faces of the wall together, while smaller interlocking stones form the core, creating a strong, monolithic structure.

Dry stone walling is a craft that relies entirely on the skill of fitting each stone in harmony with the next, without the use of concrete foundations or mortar joints. This allows the wall to flex naturally with ground movement, enhancing its longevity.

The top stones, known as cock and hen coping stones, are carefully placed to span both sides of the wall, distributing weight evenly and helping to secure the structure below.

"Alex at Helpston Masonry completed several projects for us at Molecey Mill and each and every one was expertly and professionally done with supreme skill and craftsmanship. He replaced our historic Tuscan Doric four column porch and installed 5 beautiful Stamford stone raised beds in our walled garden. They also rebuilt the walls on the sides of our mill stream. Each project required sympathetic handling of both existing and new materials and they blend in perfectly. We cannot recommend Alex highly enough." - Glenn Fuller
