Letter Cutting

Letter Cutting

Your trusted partner in Stone Construction.

The skilled art of letter cutting traditionally consists of two main styles.

Classic V-cut lettering has been practised for centuries and involves controlled chiselling into the stone to create a precise V-shape incision. This tequnique produces a striking shadow effect when it catches natural light, enhancing the clarity and character of the lettering. It can be executed in a wide range of font styles, from bold and simple forms to fine scripts with delicate serifs. Decorative borders can also be added to frame and complement the inscription.

Embossed (raised-relief) lettering is created by carving away the surrounding stone, leaving the letter raised from the background. This style is commonly set against a textured finish, such as sparrow pecking, although it can also be applied to a smooth surface.

This relief carving technique can also be extended beyond lettering to produce detailed images, including portraits and animals, Each piece is carefully sculpted to accurately capture the subject with precision and craftsmanship.
